Notes for Mildred Erythina OGDEN:

Mildred met Clinton Wiese at a church young-peoples group when the church was on 13th and J Streets. After the meeting, they attended a dance in the ballroom above the Senator Theater. [This must have been around 1916, EW]
Clinton was working for Mercy Hospital and visited often at the Ogden residence on G street, a house owned by Kelly Zumwalt. Clinton and Mildred dated often prior to the US entry into WW I when Clinton joined the army. They corresponded until he received a medical discharge for malaria and returned to Sacramento.
Clinton and Mildred resumed their courtship and Mildred became pregnant in 1918. Mildred was a handsome and robust young woman and her pregnancy did not show, however, by May of 1919, something clearly had to be done. The couple decided to be married quietly out of town so as to avoid adverse publicity and traveled first to Stockton, California and then on to Carson City, Nevada. Mildred remembered taking the Central California Traction train to Stockton, but balked at the small steam engine for the trip over the Sierras. A gentleman who planned to drive to Carson city offered to take them along. The return trip was made on the train and Mildred remembered the old fashioned carriage being heated by a pot-bellied stove which she thought rather funny.
Their daughter, Connie, was born in June, 1919.
